What makes “The Room” so wretched? Amateurish acting and even worse dialogue, continuity errors, plot cul-de-sacs and characters who appear and disappear for no reason. Shots of San Francisco’s skyline are shown after nearly every scene lest we forget where the action is happening.

Some scenes are blurry. Some we wish were blurry, like the boring, passionless sex scenes.

Watching all that makes you want to wash your eyeballs with bleach — and see it again.

If you haven’t had a reason to bleach your eyes out yet, be sure to mark your calendar for Feb. 17, when we’ll be showing the film here in Wichita.

We had a great showing last night at The Anchor. Folks from all over Wichita came out to be entertained by Troll2, but ended up getting an education on the negative effects of being a vegetarian. Primarily that you’re more likely to be Goblin food than a omnivore.

If you attended the screening, or if you’ve already seen the film, we’d love your reflections on what else the film is trying to teach us. We won’t choose which of the many symbols to focus on – the popcorn, the clover-leaf birthmarks or the curdled milk are all ripe for analysis.

If you need a refresher, you can view the full-length movie at Hulu.com, once they overcome their server issues.

To encourage feedback, our favorite commenter will win a double-decker bologna sandwich at our next screening.

Analyze away!

We know January isn’t typically a month filled with horror-inducing films.

Fortunately, Troll2 is anything but.

Considered by many to be the worst film ever created – yes, even worse than The Room – Troll 2 is one of the most enjoyable films that Hurts So Good will show.

Troll 2 is more obviously funny than The Room, but creates a similar group-response experience. Come prepared to shout, groan and maybe even throw some spoons.

Most importantly, we’ll be taking a donation for the Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development fund. We can’t accept checks or credit cards, so please bring cash.

We can’t wait to see you there.

One of the things that makes The Room so darn enjoyable is interacting with what’s happening on screen. At last month’s screening, we kind of took a simple approach, easing people into the viewing experience. At the next screening, however, the spoons are coming out and the footballs will fly.

Below are the basic audience participation activities for you to participate in, courtesy of The Onion.

Spoon!
For some reason, a majority of the artwork in the movie is framed spoons. So any time you see one of these masterpieces, you yell, “Spoon!” and throw a handful of spoons at the screen. Please note: HSG Films will not supply spoons or medical attention due to any spoon-related injuries.

Hi Denny! Bye Denny!
Anytime the lovable, bizarre Danny comes onto the screen, the audience enthusiastically yells, “Hi Denny!” As he leaves, naturally, the audience yells, “Bye Denny!”

“Cause You’re a Woman!“
For some reason, Tommy Wiseau hates women. His portrayal of them in this movie is unflattering to say the least. In response, audience members can yell “Because you’re a woman!” after anything that has to do with a woman. Often, this phrase gets used at any time, so feel free to say it when you feel it’s appropriate.

“Go! Go! Go! Go!“
There are several panning shots of the Golden Gate bridge. Unfortunately, the camera never makes it from one end to the other. When the bridge shots start, the audience starts chanting, “Go! Go! Go! Go!” and then, when it doesn’t make it all the way, we express our disappointment.

Throw the Ball
According to Wiseau, there’s nothing quite like throwing a football around with the guys. And while he’s right, typically the throwing of the football involves moving more than two feet from one another. Whenever the guys start throwing the ball, the audience is encouraged to get up and do the same. And as you’ll see, it’s best if no one goes long.

“Meanwhile, back in San Francisco”
Shouted whenever a shot uses footage of the city to inform the audience that we’re still in San Francisco.

Open Revulsion Or Leaving During the “Love” Scenes
Don’t hold back what you’re feeling while you’re watching these scenes. Your comedic timing will make them more bearable. Or, if you’re not a masochist, you should leave and go get a drink, take a smoke or use the restroom during these scenes.

There’s far more to do, but this should get you started. For more ideas, be sure to head over to The Onion’s guide to The Room. You’ll be glad you did.

We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Hurts So Good Film series last night.

There were about 40 folks in attendance and almost all seemed to have a good time. The drinks flowed, the laughter filled the balcony and camaraderie was tangible.

If you missed out on Wednesday’s screening, no worries. We’ll be showing The Room again in September. Stay tuned for details.

If you did attend the screening, let us know what you thought – but keep your stupid comments in your pocket.
